Hi,

1. Did you create a new user profile or did you edit your user name?
2. What exactly are you uploading and where?
3. Where do you see the account name?

Open your C: Drive and then go to the Users folder. Check if you see the other account there.

Also Open User accounts by clicking on start and then clicking on Control Panel.

Do you see the user account there?

Please provide us some more information.

I am having the same problem. Most annoying!

I changed my user name in windows VISTA (and also changed the name of my computer), but Vista insists on showing my new username with a slash/next to my old user name.

Like this: newname/oldusername

> Open your C: Drive and then go to the Users folder. Check if you see the other account there.

I did this, and it  shows my old user name!  But, when I tried to delete it, Vista asks me "are you sure you want to move this folder to the recycle bin" - and it shows the NEW User name!  I'm confused...

> Also Open User accounts by clicking on start and then clicking on Control Panel.

The User Account there, correctly shows my new user name.

It's all very annoying..because when I download/install new programs, Vista always shows the new username with a slash/next to the old user name.

How do I just get rid of my old username completely??

P

Hi there Appaloosa...I've just recently had the same experience of the user problem...The best thing to do is first move your files that you want to save onto a media disk, or on to another drive...This is because your going to have to make a new account, and when you have made it your files, pictures, and anything that you need to save that you have put in,  will be wiped out.

Then like i say, make another account which will ask you for a password etc, and also will ask what sort of account you want....Make your account an Administrator account....when you have done that, and the machine has finished updating your preferences, you will find the annoying account (that has give you the trouble)..you will be able to delete it from the C:\  drive.....The problem may be that you have changed the User's account name, and not the User account....good luck !

@elreeko56

Worked like a charm.  Thanks!

In an unrelated question, is it safe to delete the "Public" folder from the same directory (ie: C\Users\Public

?

What exactly is this used for, and is it necessary?

Cheers,

I know this is an old post of yours, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

The old user name (who owned the computer prior to me) had a user account "zoemiller" whose name shows up in my filepath.  I opened User Accounts and found a file with that name!!!

What do I do next?  I'm afraid to just delete it because the filepath (example)

C:\Users\zoeymiller\Desktop\EVERYTHING

So, how did this happen?  Where did I go wrong when I got this used computer?

Any help would be appreciated - the comment you were addressing above is the only "information" I've found on the internet in hours that addresses this very problem.  Hope you're still around :)

Thanks, Alisa
